Walking the West Highland Way – Day 2: Inversnaid to Bridge of Orchy

Trees in the water

Our second day took us from Inversnaid along Loch Lomond for around 5 miles/7.5km to Ardleish where we call the ferry to Ardlui and take a train to Bridge of Orchy. It had rained all night and we left the hostel in our rain gear. Soon after the rain stopped and we could see the first bit of blue sky.

We got to Ardlui train station about 10 minutes before our train was supposed to arrive. We were the only people around with no staff at the station. We started to get a bit worried when the train didn’t arrive with the next train not due for another five hours!

I spotted a little yellow telephone box which said ‘press A to speak to Scotrail Customer Services’. This is what I did and a friendly person confirmed that the train was delayed by 25 minutes. Very impressive customer service!

The journey took about an hour and we had just enough time for a cup of tea before we got to our destination. It was a beautiful day and the views of the munros were spectacular.
